2 Weeks Out
- Confirm movers or rental truck reservation
- Schedule disconnect dates for utilities at old address
- Schedule connect dates for utilities at new address
- File USPS change of address (not free? skip — do per-account)
- Update address with bank, employer, insurance, DMV
- Order moving supplies: boxes, tape, markers, bubble wrap
1 Week Out
- Pack room by room, label by destination room not contents
- Pack a 'first night' box: sheets, towels, toiletries, phone chargers
- Defrost freezer and clean fridge
- Take photos of electronics setup before unplugging
- Confirm building elevator reservations or HOA approval
Day Before
- Take meter readings (gas, electric, water) with photo
- Charge phone and power bank
- Withdraw cash for tips and incidentals
Day Of
- Walk old place with mover before they leave
- Inspect new place before unloading; note existing damage
- Locate breaker box and water shutoff at new place
- Make beds before fatigue sets in
Within 7 Days
- Update driver's license and voter registration
- Find local hospital, urgent care, pharmacy
- Replace smoke detector batteries and test
